Finding the right car

Artículo actualizado el 08/01/2025

You can rent various types of cars and vans on Getaround. However, to be listed on the platform, cars must:

  • Have 4 wheels
  • Be under 3.5 tonnes
  • Be 13m3 or smaller

Other vehicle types aren’t covered by our insurance, so we don’t accept them on the platform (motorcycles, boats, buses, motorhomes, etc.).

You can find cars with a trailer on the platform, but you can’t rent a car and attach your own trailer because it won’t be covered by our insurance.

Getaround Connect

On Getaround, there are two types of cars:

  • Getaround Connect cars: Unlock the car using your smartphone, without having to meet the owner. Get going in just a few minutes!

  • Non-Getaround Connect cars: Meet the owner of the car, who will check your documents and give you the keys directly.

Instant booking

With Instant Booking, you can book a car immediately without having to wait for the owner’s confirmation. Cars that allow Instant Booking appear in search results with a lightning bolt symbol. You can also filter your search to only see these cars.

We require owners with Instant Booking activated to always keep their calendar up to date. If you book one of these cars, your rental is automatically confirmed.

Cars with delivery

Some owners offer delivery of their cars, when you search for a Meet owner rental, you will see in the search results how many cars can also be delivered to your search location.

The owner will deliver the car to your location, and at the end of the rental you will arrange with the owner where to return the car, more information about starting and ending your meet owner rental can be found here.

Delivery is available for rentals booked more than 24 hours in advance, and for a rental duration of more than 48 hours.

Any costs related to the delivery of the car are included in the rental price, owners should never ask you to pay for delivery outside of the Getaround platform.

Please note this feature is not available for Getaround Connect cars.

Cars adapted for persons with impaired mobility

Certain cars on the platform are adapted for those with impaired mobility. While we’re not yet able to filter these cars during search, the listing descriptions will indicate whether the car is right for you.

If you're in France, and you can’t find the car you need on Getaround, you can go to Wheeliz, which specialises in renting cars for people with impaired mobility.

Trailers

In France

Only trailers belonging to the car's owner and weighing less than 750kg are allowed, otherwise there is no insurance coverage. It is not possible to attach a trailer of your own or one you have rented.

In Germany, Austria, Spain, and Belgium

Our insurance and roadside assistance do not cover trailers or caravans of any kind.

Rental conditions for each car category (eco, comfort, premium/privilege, prestige)

Most cars belong to the eco category, whilst the comfort and premium/privilege and prestige categories are reserved for high-end cars.
